Project Info:
1955 Moretti 1200 Sport Spider, Chassis no. 5011, Engine no. 5011 (?- n.b. engine not believed to be original)
Extract from its 2017 sale description:
"This Moretti was used by the Factory extensively on Motor Shows as a prototype, notably in Torino and Geneva Motor shows in 1955. After, it was (presumably) acquired by Lino Fayen who, aside from being a great racing driver, was also a Venezuelean Ferrari and Moretti dealer and importer for both marques into Venezuela. Fayen possibly used the cars in France between 1955 and 1956 before he brought it back to Venezuela. This is the only 1200S with a correct 1200S engine and gearbox . The engine in this car has 10 to 1 compression and side draft Webers.
This 1200S was then sold by Lino Fayen to an American working in Venezuela for Ford Motor co. named Bo Holmquist as a new car. He took the car to Havana Cuba in 1958-1959 and raced the car at the Havana road races as well as local racing. When Castro came to power Holmquist left Cuba taking the car with him and went to Florida and kept it until 1985 or 1986. It was then bought from a man in Tenessee who owned it since then in 2001. The car was restored at Zagato (N.B. !!) in Milan to a very high level and was shown at the Pebble Beach Concours d'elegance. The Moretti has since been rallied and fine tuned and is very reliable and race ready and has also been shown and won awards at other concours such as the Greenwich Concours d'elegance and the Concours d'elegance of America".
