Project Info:
Chassis no. 1291 - Engine no. 1291S
Extract of Bonhams description of the car in 2008: "This beautifully restored and prepared example of Moretti’s 1954 750cc Gran Sport Berlinetta ranks together with the Alfa Romeo TZ series for its tangibly lightweight, exquisitely fine-detailed features. The Berlinetta bodywork was styled by Carrozzeria Michelotti, and the car was equipped as new with one of the Torinese marque’s watch-like little 750cc twin-overhead camshaft 4-cylinder engines, a competition unit which revved to 7,000rpm and which developed a reputed 80bhp.
The car spent its initial life with Moretti before being imported into the USA by Italian car importer and fan Ernie McAfee, whose sticker is still on one of the windows. It resided Stateside for many years before returning to Europe in 1994. It was acquired by the present owner in poor condition in October 2004, since when it has been completely restored to a very high general standard. The Moretti is beautifully finished in maroon paint, complemented by a tan leather interior. Lightweight bucket seats with harness add to its competition credentials.
It has only covered approximately 120 miles since the rebuild and still requires running in. It is offered with V5 registration document, MoT to March 2008, road fund licence to February 2008 and a large and comprehensive file outlining both history and restoration details.
